Also, look at the inconsistency in the black % in the PPP polls. I do not think the heads up vote margin has changed much at all, throughout polling. This should have only fluctuated by 1%, if at all.

I agree, Sanford could overperform his public polling margin.

That’s an interesting perspective regarding social desirability bias in the PPP estimates. It makes good sense to me, but I still hope you’re wrong.

Thanks for the intelligent and, I think, accurate commentary. Americans elections are normally presented like football games: a gushing reporting of the score followed by superficial color commentary, no context, no real analysis.

I cannot imagine Sanford losing. Conservatives circle the wagons against Democrats. And this is a conservative place. I will be shocked if Sanford loses, although I would like that to happen.

Very intersting analysis. But as I understand it, you’re looking at a reprsentative’s entire voting record relative to donations from interest groups. Wouldn’t we expect the effect to be specific to certain votes, for example, on pro-union bills?
